Riayn Spaero is a New York-based writer, independent filmmaker, and performing artist whose work has been featured in The Believer, Longreads.com, The Bushwick Daily, and an A Room of Her Own: Gift of Freedom compilation. Her short film Filter, an exploration of Body Dysmorphic Disorder which she wrote and produced, received an honorable mention from the 2011 Columbus International Film + Video Festival. In 2017, she penned an article for Longreads.com exploring her work documenting survivors of the MMIW crisis entitled: “Follow the Oil Trail and You’ll Find the Girls.” In 2014, she had the privilege of interviewing Cornel West against the backdrop of unrest in Ferguson, MO and nationwide police brutality. The year prior, she addressed stranger photography’s impact on domestic violence survivors for The Bushwick Daily. Her past five years have been spent spearheading, producing, and directing Bridget, Juana, Shannon…, in hopes of shining a light on an ignored trafficking and murder epidemic targeting Indigenous American women.
